Jack Webster, played by Kyran Bowes, had his leg amputated after contracting sepsis.
Sepsis is a serious complication of an infection, also known as blood disease.
The decision was made to amputate because the youngster was told he would die if his foot wasn’t removed.
His dad Kevin Webster, Michael Le Vell, was left with little choice after his son initially went undiagnosed.
How did Jack Webster get sepsis on Coronation Street?
Jack Webster contracted sepsis after grazing his knee while playing football with his half-sister Sophie.
He had been left with Sophie for the day and later felt unwell but she insisted that he should go to school.
Jack was then sent home from school and Seb and Faye later found him slumped on the stairs.
Luckily Doctor Ali spotted them and urged the pair to get him help as quickly as possible.

How did Coronation Street film the amputation scenes?
The soap used Hollywood style green-screen technology to digitally erase Jack's lower leg with the use of a special sock.
A video showing the before and after process was posted on the soap's Facebook page.
