The 27-year-old will star as Reverend Will Davenport and he has spoken of his delight at landing the role
CALL THE MIDWIFE actor Tom Brittney will replace James Norton in series five of Grantchester.
Norton recently announced he would be stepping down as crime-solving clergyman Sidney Chambers after the fourth season of the hit drama, and now it has been revealed Brittney, who has also appeared in Outlander, will join the cast as Reverend Will Davenport.
Confirming the news today, Brittney said: "I am beyond excited. From the moment I heard about the role of Will Davenport, it was something I wanted more than anything. It’s a real honour to be joining such a wonderful series, with such a loyal fan base."
Norton added: "As excited as I am to be filming a new series of Grantchester, it’s also heartbreaking to be saying goodbye to Sidney Chambers. I’ve loved this experience, and particularly working with such an extraordinary cast and crew.
"All the best to the fantastic Tom Brittney in his role as the new vicar. He is a wonderful addition to the Grantchester family."
Grantchester has become an international hit since the TV series first hit screens in the UK in 2015. The fourth season is currently being shot in England.
Executive producer Rebecca Eaton recently insisted the series will be in good hands with Brittney, saying: “It’s a bittersweet time for Grantchester fans, who will be cheering the return of the series but crushed to say goodbye to James.
