Zoe Ball reveals alcohol would have ‘killed her’ as she celebrates two years of sobriety in emotional post
TELLY presenter Zoe Ball celebrated two years on the wagon — and revealed staying on the booze could have killed her.
Zoe, 47, lost cameraman boyfriend Billy Yates, 40, to suicide in May last year and split from DJ husband Fatboy Slim, 54, in 2016.
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, she wrote: “Special moment. Two years no booze, through two of the toughest years of my life.
“I’m not sure I’d have survived intact had it not been for my sobriety and recovery.”
The Strictly: It Takes Two host thanked an addiction treatment centre. She also sent “extra big love to my family and special magic loved ones who encouraged me to get help”.
In 2009, Zoe banned herself from booze on New Year’s Day following a party of “total carnage”.
She remained sober until 2014, when she said: “I’m an all-or-nothing person. But I know that about myself, which is the key to stopping. Now I think ‘moderation in everything’.”
The inquest into her boyfriend Billy’s death heard last month how Zoe desperately tried to help him after two previous suicide attempts.
In March, Zoe revealed she still blames herself for his death.
But she said: “Then I have to stop and say, ‘Everyone who loved him knew. None of us found an answer’.”
