Robbie Williams confirms he has held talks with Simon Cowell over X-Factor gig and says he would ‘love’ to be a judge

ROBBIE Williams says he would “love” to be a judge on X Factor – as he edges towards signing a deal.

The singer, 44, confirmed talks with the show’s boss Simon Cowell, 58, plus his wife Ayda Field, 39.

But he admitted he fears for his health and cannot trust himself as he broke his silence on the middle finger row. He said: “If there is an X Factor in my future, whether it be this year or next year, I’m scared for my own safety and health — not because of the people out there or the public or Twitter or Instagram, but my wife.

“She’s an A-plus grade student from Beverly Hills, incredibly square, and is like ‘why would you do that?’ And I’m from Stoke. She is supposed to be doing it with me. People say that every year, we always say no comment.

"There’s a lot of me that would love to do it too.”

e added: “Nothing’s signed but watch this space.” It comes after we revealed he has been in secret talks to replace Louis Walsh, 65. Robbie sparked outrage by sticking his middle finger up during the World Cup opening ceremony last week.

But he said on ITV’s This Morning: “It’s really important at these kind of things to not cause an international incident. And do you know what? I managed it.

“There was one minute to kick off, people wanted to know. I was doing the countdown.”

He added: “I do think ‘oh God’, of course yeah. I cannot trust me.
