LOVE Island new girl and government aide Zara McDermott failed to tell Whitehall bosses that she was appearing on the show.

The model and policy adviser - who has posted a selfie from Downing Street on Instagram, saying she "makes the laws" - had only told them she was taking a “career break” on a telly project and had not mentioned the saucy ITV2 hit.

She has now been warned she must not break strict rules on expressing views about politics in public and be on her best behaviour or face the sack.The Whitehall high-flyer, 21, has worked for Education Secretary Damian Hinds for eight months. Before that she was with Michael Gove at the Environment Department.

Zara’s boast to housemates that she “makes laws” has already raised eyebrows among colleagues.

A government source said: “She said she was taking a career break to work on TV but did not give specific details.

“She needs to be very careful because the rules are quite vague about what would be deemed bad behaviour so she could end up getting sacked.”

The DfE said civil servants on career breaks “must abide by the civil service code”.
