THIRTEEN-year-old Sarah Sugden was tonight told she has heart failure, leaving Emmerdale fans devastated.
The teenager,. played by Katie Hill, was in hospital over fears her cancer had returned, but a doctor revealed she is suffering from a rare side effect of chemotherapy.
Her shocked mum Debbie Dingle, actress Charley Webb, held her close and promised the youngster: "We're going get through this, I'm not going to lose you."
Sarah's family had gathered in the hospital to support her as she went through a number of tests to find out what was wrong.
Once the results were back, the doctor told the mum and daughter: "We're going to do everything we can, but there's no easy way to tell you this.
"You're suffering from heart failure.
"It's a very rare side-effect of the chemo, I'm sorry."

Another fan said: "If Sarah dies, I hope she doesn’t, it will be far worse for Debbie than going to prison. #emmerdale".
Last night Sarah exposed her mum Debbie Dingle's role in Ross Barton's acid attack.
The schoolgirl was arrested by police after stealing Joe Tate's car alongside Leanna Cavanagh, Jacob Gallagher and her uncle Noah Dingle, but after they got away a breathless Sarah was taken into custody.
But as she was questioned about the car theft, Sarah let her anger out about her mum and told the police about her role in Ross Barton's acid attack.
Viewers know that Debbie paid drug dealer Simon to beat up Joe, but he got confused and decided to throw acid instead, mistaking Ross for Joe.
But while Sarah knows this, she is too disgusted with her mother's actions to care and continued telling the police everything, much to the horror of her grandmother Faith.
"Well you tell me, is throwing acid in someone's face against the law, or not?" she told the police after ranting about how her mum should be arrested.
She added: "Look my mum didn't throw any acid. She just paid someone else to."
Later when she was confronted by Debbie and Ross, she was unrepentant even when Debbie told her she would go to prison if it is what would take for Sarah to be OK for it.
But when the police walked in, Sarah began to breathe rapidly before passing out, forcing her family to rush her to hospital.
Debbie reeled as the doctors told her that Sarah's heart appeared to be the issue, but couldn't rule out that her cancer had returned.
