Who was Glenda Jackson?

Born May 9, 1936, Glenda May Jackson was a British actress and former Labour party politician.

She studied on a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1954 before making her professional stage debut three years later.

Glenda initially retired from acting to stand for election in 1992 as an MP for Hampstead and Highgate and went on to become Junior Transport Minister under Tony Blair.

She announced she would step down in 2015 and is still the only member of the British parliament to win an Oscar.

In a statement, her agent Lionel Larner said: "Glenda Jackson, two-time Academy Award-winning actress and politician, died peacefully at her home in Blackheath, London this morning after a brief illness with her family at her side.
