Neighbours’ Ryan Maloney wants to join Coronation Street as the new Pat Phelan as he teases Ramsay Street exit
The Sun Online's weekly soap column brings you exclusive interviews, the biggest soap news and all the spoilers you could need
NEIGHBOURS star Ryan Maloney is just dying to become the new Pat Phelan in Coronation Street.
The actor - who has played Toadie Rebecchi for 23 years in the Australian soap - has revealed he fancies following in the footsteps of soaplands biggest villain and visiting Weatherfield one snowy Christmas to wreak havoc.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online's Soap Bubble, he said: "I'd love to do a UK soap, it'd be brilliant. I'd love to have a crack at that."
Speaking about what his potential Corrie role could be, he said: "I want to come in on Christmas Day and just be the killer for one episode."
He added: "People would be 'like who is that masked Toadfish' and then I'll leave."
Ryan also revealed that while Toadie has been a lovable rogue since the 90s, he has been trying to make him seem more flawed and actively tries to make him unlikable.
"If a storyline looks like it's going to go too far then I'll try and find a way to make it go even further," he said.
"Just to try and push the boundaries of characters really.
"If I see a storyline where I see potential to be disliked then I'll have a crack at it.
"And try to make it so these people are really flawed."
He added: "Everyone just thinks Toadie's a laugh, he's the clown."
And as for sticking around on Ramsey Street for another 23 years, he said: "Jesus no, that means I'll be like 78.
"I don't think I want to be here for that long, though having said that, who knows? I'm always very grateful for the work."
Neighbours airs weekdays on Channel 5
SCENE OF THE WEEK
Corrie's Anna murdering Pat Phelan
It has been a long time coming but Anna Windass finally got her revenge on her rapist Pat Phelan in Coronation Street.
After being secretly - for Weatherfield, anyway - released from prison she popped back at exactly the right time to miss the serial killer torturing her son and future daughter-in-law.
Fortunately Lady Luck was on her side and she trailed Phelan around the cobbles, eventually catching up with him in the Bistro kitchen where she promptly ran him through with a massive knife.
Congratulations Anna, that was long overdue.

SPOILER ALERT
What's coming up next week?
There have been bad times on Coronation Street recently and now there will be sad times as Eileen Grimshaw leaves Weatherfield, along with Nicola Rubinstein and baby Zack for a new life in Bristol, and her house is quickly taken over by Abi Franklin and her son Seb.
And they won't be the only housing-challenged people on the cobbles as Sean Tully's homeless hell begins when Fiz Brown gently suggests he leave her home forthwith.
Meanwhile over at the factory things go from bad to worse as Alya Nazir, not realising she can't actually run Underworld alone, locks Carla Connor out as she discovers Aidan's will and goes to war with the family.
But that's the least of the family's troubles as sort-of-siblings Ryan Connor and Ali Neeson are forced to share a room and promptly clash, but while their family relationship might be a little tricky, their former step-grandmother Liz McDonald sleeps with their uncle Johnny Connor behind his wife Jenny's back. And it all gets very messy.
Still, they have a new reason to celebrate when Eva Price's baby secret is out and they discover that little baby Susie Barlow is actually Susie Connor and late Aidan's daughter.
Over in Emmerdale it might get even worse as Brenda Walker becomes yet more unhinged and decides to try to tempt Laurel Potts' dad Doug into an illicit affair.
In non-scorned woman times, Sarah Sugden gets a bit of karma as she pretends to be ill to split up her mum Debbie Dingle and Joe Tate, before later being actually rushed to hospital when stealing a car goes a bit wrong.
The village reels as Amelia Spencer's disappearance takes a frightening twist, and in heartbreaking news Paddy Kirk breaks down as Chas Dingle tells him the truth about their baby's condition.
Revenge is the dish of the day in Walford as EastEnders' Hunter Owen decides Louise Mitchell is to blame for his deranged behaviour as the E20 thief is finally exposed.
And Mick Carter's alleged friend, really more of a creepy enemy, Stuart Highway has his sick secret exposed leading to a furious confrontation.
