CORONATION Street star Debbie Rush says she "always knew" her character Anna Windass would get revenge on Pat Phelan.
In dramatic scenes on tonight's soap, Anna stabbed Phelan in the chest and killed him - five months after he framed her for attempted murder.
Speaking to , she “I always knew that Anna was going to get her revenge.
"I don’t think any of our viewers have had any sort of inkling that Anna was going to turn up on the street. I hope they're surprised.”
Debbie left Coronation Street back in January after her character was sentenced to five years in jail.
The actress admits she had to keep her return a secret but was thrilled at the outcome.
She said: "When I knew that this was going to happen and that Anna was going off to prison and I knew that she was going to get her revenge, I was very happy about it, because she needed to do that.”
Anna made her shock return on last night's episode as it was revealed she had been part of a plot to lure Phelan back to Weatherfield and hand him into the police.
The plan went wrong and tonight, she ended up confronting him in the Bistro after he shot both his daughter Nicola and Michelle Connor.
Aware that the game was up, Phelan pulled the knife from his chest.
