Stephen Mulhern reveals close relationship to fellow presenter Emma Willis
This week TV Mag gets to know the Britain's Got More Talent host

I love memorabilia. Years ago, there was an auction for a piece of paper with Princess Diana’s signature on it.
Nobody bid on it, so I donated £300 to charity and got it. I was clearing out my attic recently and found a letter that Prince Charles sent to me when I did the Royal Variety Performance in 2012, so all I need now is William and Harry’s autographs, then I can whack them all on eBay and I’ll be minted.
I am an incredibly plain eater – I’ve never had a curry, I’ve never tried sushi, it’s embarrassing. The person who takes the mick out of me the most is Emma Willis. She calls me ‘50 shades of beige’. But I’m very close to Emma – she is the kindest and most honest presenter around. She is also amazing with advice. If I had a problem, I would absolutely listen to her. Ant and Dec I’m close with too. They live about three minutes from me.
I’ve had a few crazy fans. One woman waited outside the stage door when I was in panto and said: “I saw the way you were looking at me from the stage. Let me tell you now, you’re going to make me pregnant!” It was quite sinister. Another sent a massive bar of Dairy Milk and every square had my face carved into it. It was impressive, but I wasn’t going to eat it after someone’s grubby hands had been all over it!
I have a house in West London and a place in Brighton, on the seafront, so whenever I am not working I always head down there. It literally overlooks the sea and you cannot even imagine how relaxing it is. If I wasn’t working in telly in London, I would move by the sea somewhere. It is such a tonic.
My favourite holiday destination is Florida. I go every year because I love it, especially the theme parks. If there’s a water park, I’m there. At Universal Studios in Florida there’s a water ride in Volcano Bay where you stand on a trapdoor, cross your arms over your body and the floor opens and you fall down a tube. It’s quite horrific.
Corrie and Emmerdale are two of my favourite shows. I’ve always been a huge soap fan and I would love a cameo in Corrie but I’ve never been asked. I don’t think Corrie is too dark at the moment either. I think it’s good that they cover the issues they cover because these things do happen, and it’s meant to be true to life.
The last time I went to a nightclub was about 15 years ago in Bognor Regis. I was at the bar and this guy came up to me and said: “You’re that idiot off the telly, aren’t ya?” What do you say to that? So I just said: “Yeah” – and then he punched the side of my face. It was so surreal. The security guard said to me: “As soon as you walked in, I knew that was going to happen.” I was like: “I wish you’d told me!”
