Michael Parr says he’s had ‘the best years’ at Emmerdale as he breaks silence after quitting the soap
Actor confirmed The Sun’s exclusive story that revealed he would be leaving the hit ITV soap and said it was time for him to move on
MICHAEL Parr said his time at Emmerdale has been the “best years” as he broke his silence after quitting the ITV soap.
Yesterday The Sun exclusively revealed the actor would be leaving his role as Ross Barton this year.
In a statement Michael told his fans: “Have had the best few years at Emmerdale but it’s time to move on and explore other avenues.
He then jokingly added: “If I win that soap award I might stay though.”
Michael is currently taking on his toughest storyline to date.
His character Ross was the victim of an acid-attack which left him with painful, facial scars.
In last night’s episode, he accidentally shot Debbie Dingle after forcing a confession out of Joe Tate.
Speaking about the pressures of taking on the storyline, Mike told : “I have felt a lot of pressure.
“I spoke to lots of victims about their experiences and really wanted to understand what they were feeling.”
We revealed how Mike quit over a number of issues, including the time he spent in the make up chair every day when having his burns make up applied.
Mike confirmed it had affected his skin and added: “The make-up effects are taking their toll.”
Insiders said it hadn’t been an easy decision for Michael to make but explained he was ready to move on.
They said: “Mike has told anyone who will listen how much he hated his storylines and what bosses had done with his character.
“He particularly hated the make-up he had to wear for the acid attack storyline. He’s been fed up for ages and has finally told bosses he’s off.”
Emmerdale’s acting series producer Kate Brooks confirmed the news and said yesterday they were working on a big exit for his character.
She said: “Michael will leave Emmerdale later this year at the end of his current contract.
“His decision to pursue other acting opportunities has given the writing team the opportunity to create an intriguing storyline for his exit.
“Michael, who is nominated for Best Actor at the British Soap Awards next month, will leave the show on a high after brilliantly portraying Ross for five years.”
