LITTLE ED BOOSTER

Rolling Stones legend Mick Jagger says Ed Sheeran will be popular for decades after Elton John said his success won’t last

Last week Sir Elton John warned Ed that his career won't last forever and to be prepared for it

AFTER a warning from Elton John that his time at the top won’t last, Ed Sheeran might have heard enough from rock veterans.

But it didn’t stop him hooking up with Sir Mick Jagger for some further rock ’n’ roll wisdom.

I’m told the Rolling Stones frontman took a very different view on Ed’s prospects, backing him to go the distance for many decades.

Well, Mick should know.

The pair caught up as their respective tours rolled up in Dublin.

A source tells me: “They’re both great networkers who love music and enjoy talking about life in the business.

“So when they realised their tours were crossing over in Ireland, they decided to get together for lunch, picking somewhere very posh but very private to do it out of the way given they are two of the world’s most recognisable stars.

“Ed admires Mick enormously for all he’s achieved over a lifetime in music. He was keen to take his advice on board and listen to his experience.”

Last week we told how Sir Elton told Ed to be prepared for the fact his success won’t last for ever.

But my source continued: “Mick definitely doesn’t share Elton’s view that it won’t last. He believes Ed is one of the most talented men of his generation.

“In fact, he told him to ignore Elton’s warning entirely, as he thinks he could carry on as long as the Stones have.”

I’d love to know who picked up the bill for lunch.

I got my hands on a VIP backstage pass as Mick arrived in Dublin ahead of yesterday’s opening night of the Stones’ No Filter European tour.

It saw him and bandmates Ronnie Wood, Kieth Richards and Charlie Watts romp through their six-decade career — concluding with fireworks and plenty of Satisfaction for the 90,000 crowd at Croke Park.

And from behind the scenes it’s clear the foursome still mean business, with no sign of slowing down.

As one crew member told me ahead of the gig: “It’s even bigger than it’s been in the past in terms of the stage set-up and the ambition, massive productions and A-list special guests.

“Mick seems to have the hunger for it more than ever.”

When they’re still this good, the fans’ appetite shows no sign of waning either.

Stones still Rock

BURSTING with hits, the Stones’ set shows why they’re Britain’s greatest rock ’n’ roll export.

There are occasional hiccups but the band’s relentless energy more than makes up for it – with age-defying Sir Mick effortlessly filling every inch of a huge stage which includes a vast pier out into the adoring audience.

The Rolling Stones' set list

Pyrotechnics and classic Sympathy For The Devil starts the set as it means to go on, with a couple of more obscure tracks for the purists before the band rampage into a lengthy home stretch of classics including Brown Sugar, Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Honky Tonk Women.

The tour arrives in London next week for the first dates of the UK stretch starting on Tuesday, where special guests include Liam Gallagher and Florence + The Machine, before more shows including Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff.

And sources close to the band say they’re already looking towards their 60th anniversary in 2022.

For many, this is an exercise in nostalgia, but the songs have stood the test of time better than almost any back catalogue in history. It’s Only Rock ’N’ Roll, but I still like it. And so do they.

Louisa serves a treat

LOUISA Johnson unveiled her new single by writhing half-naked on a table.

But thankfully she stuck to the stage while performing Yes at Manchester’s Menagerie Restaurant & Bar on Wednesday.

The X Factor winner told The Sun’s Fabulous mag in March: “When this single was first played to me in the boardroom at my record company, I was so happy I just went mental.

“I ripped all my clothes off . . .  literally doing every Rihanna move I’d learned since I was a six.”

Louisa was one of Rita Ora's top three acts on 2015’s X Factor. She’s certainly busier than Reggie 'N' Bollie.
