What have been the reviews for The House That Jack Built?

The serial killer has received both standing ovations and mass walkouts upon debuting at Cannes film festival.

New York Magazine's Kyle Buchanan added that many audience members were horrified by what they saw, writing: "He mutilates [actress] Riley Keough, he mutilates children...and we are all here in formal dress expected to watch it?"

Yet wide-spread opinion was divided with other critics acknowledging the shocking nature content of the film, but still appreciative of the thriller.

David Ehrlich said: "THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT: another trip through the abattoir of Lars von Trier’s anxieties, this one a damning self-critique of / backhanded apology for the compulsive violence of artistic creation. the ending is a scorcher. very sorry to say that I loved this. #Cannes2018."
