US Country music star Thomas Rhett admits becoming a father to two girls and scoring a number one album on the Billboard 200 has turned his life on its head.

The singer, 28, described the last two years as "chaos in the best possible way" after adopting Willa, two, from Uganda last May and welcoming the arrival of biological daughter Ada just two months later.

His third album, Life Changes, debuted at number one in the US in September giving Thomas his chart-topping LP.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online, Thomas said: "My life could not have changed any more drastically in the last two years.

"My life will probably not change that much ever again. The last year has been chaos in the best way possible, that's the best way you can describe it.

"My kids have been the influence for a lot of the songs on my next album, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. It's been a very special couple of years."

Thomas and his wife Lauren decided to adopt Willa after Lauren met her while on a mission trip. Lauren's parents were adopted and Thomas said it was always a pathway the couple wanted to go down.

He said: "We tried for a little while to have a baby and nothing really happened, and so Lauren and I always knew we wanted to adopt. Lauren's mum was adopted and we had some friends in high school who were adopted, and it's always been a passion for us.

"In the beginning we were like 'we'll have three of our own and we'll adopt one,' but that's not how life works. Once we decided maybe we can't have a baby biologically that's when my wife met our daughter on a mission trip to Uganda in a little town called Masindi.

"She posted a picture of this little girl, and we were talking on the phone, and she said we have to find this girl a home, and literally out my mouth I said 'bring her home.'

"It took about a year and some change, and we got her home last May. It feels like she was always here and it's been special to watch her really strive over here and be such a great big sister to Ada."

The addition of the girls to the Rhett family has greatly changed life on the road, with his daughters and wife often joining him on the tour bus.

"My kids love to come on the road . Sometimes we make Willa go to bed before the concert she loses it, because she loves watching that show so much.

"She loves to run on stage when everyone's watching and grab the mic from me, she loves being on the road. It's definitely been an adjustment.

"It's hilarious when you're on the bus and you're tucking one child in and reading a book to the other at 8.30, and then you go play a show at 9. It sort of takes the rock star vibe out of life."

Life Changes isn't even a year old yet, and Thomas is already well underway with album number four, claiming it will be his most personal and best release to date.

Acknowledging that many artists say the same about new material, he insisted: "It's going to be different for sure content wise.

"On the last record a lot of the songs were written before a lot of crazy stuff happened. Content wise it's going to be a little bit more personal.

"My influences have changed a lot over the last year. I've been going down crazy different paths all the while staying true to the story. Every artist says this, but the next record will be the best I've put out for sure."

While new music is very much at the forefront of Thomas's mind, he's also got a burning desire to land acting roles in the future.

Having struck up a friendship with Nick Jonas, Thomas revealed the pair have had chats about the dedication required to make it in the film business.

Remembering his early years experimenting with home video, Thomas said: "As a young kid I was always taking my dad's camera and making homemade videos. Me and my sister would come up with stupid skits and act them out.

"I've made a couple of cameos on TV shows, but one of these days I think it would be cool to give it a shot in something super small for sure, just to see what that life is like.

"I've gotten to be pretty good friends with Nick Jonas and talking about him starring in a couple of TV shows and now getting that major role in Jumanji.

"Man, it's a grind but it's one of the funnest things in the world. I think it would be a blast to co-act in a TV show I'm a fan of or even do a talent show like Luke [Bryan, American Idol] or Blake [Shelton, The Voice] are doing, but we'll see what the future holds."

Thomas returns to the UK on November 17 to play a headline show at the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo.
