Why is Sir Paul McCartney top of the richest musicians list?

Sir Paul is now the richest musician in the history of the Sunday Times' rich list.

The former Beatles star tops the list, and he shares a fortune of £820m with wife Nancy Shevell.

His wealth is thanks to the royalty stream from The Beatles back catalogue, plus a 37-date international tour grossing £100m in ticket sales.

Why is Adele top of the young musicians list?

The last 12 months saw her personal wealth bumped up by £15m, taking her to £140m.

Her album 25 is believed to have sold more than 20m copies globally last year.

Even though it was released in 2015, it was one of the UK's top-selling records in 2017.

Why is Ed Sheeran so high on the list?

The Shape of You star's personal fortune has rocketed from £28m to £80m.

His Divide album was the biggest-selling record of 2017 - it also featured more top 10 singles than any album in UK chart history.

Performing 111 gigs, and headlining Glastonbury, will have also amounted to his fortune.
