PETER Kay left fans crying with laughter tonight as he made his TV return in a new unscripted episode of Car Share.
Fans were delighted to see the funnyman back on the box after cancelling his tour last year due to "unforeseen family circumstances"
Tonight's show was a brand new episode of the BBC comedy with one big difference - there was no script.
Peter introduced the TV special by declaring he wanted to see what happened when the two comedians went rogue during their car share.
He said: "Basically what we've done is something a bit different.
"We just wanted to see what would happen if we did a whole journey without a script so here's the result.
"I hope you enjoy it."
The conversation ranged from food to slow cookers, music, James Bond and takeaways, but it was the debate over a club sandwich that had viewers falling off their sofas in laughter.
John, played by Peter, and Kayleigh, played by Sian Gibson, trying to work out what the U in club sandwich stands for.
They worked out that the rest of the letters stood for chicken, lettuce and bacon, but the U left them baffled.
John then snipped: "The U stands for you being stupid!"
Viewers flocked to Twitter to laugh over the scene and many admitted they couldn't resist looking up the meaning of a club sandwich online.
One wrote: "What's the U stand for in a club sandwich? 😂😂 #CarShare."
Another tweeted: "Ok, who is googling club sandwich right now? #CarShare
U are! #peterkay."
A third added: "“The U is you being stupid” 😂 #CarShare."
Tonight's Unscripted show will be followed by the last-ever episode of the comedy later this month.
Peter previously said of the one-off special: "[Sian and I] were always very fond of ad-libbing around the script when we were filming the series.
"So we decided to see what would happen if we took the script away and just relied on our chemistry alone.”
The series, which follows two unlucky-in-love colleagues as they share a ride back and forth to work each day, is famed for its scenes in which John and Kayleigh sing along to songs on fictional radio station Forever FM, and the interaction with music formed the backbone of the ad-libbed special.
Peter added: "We just reacted to whatever came on the radio."
It comes after the comic stunned fans last year when he cancelled his 2018 UK tour, citing “unforeseen family circumstances”
