CORONATION Street fans have branded tonight's episode the saddest in soap history as Aidan was seen for the last time before taking his own life.
He shared a heartbreaking last dance with Eva and got one a final round in at the pub before he was seen breaking down at home alone.
Tonight's episode was the last time fans will see Aidan, played by Shayne Ward, onscreen and viewers were left in floods of tears as the show came to an end.
He went to see Eva one final time, telling her he knows about the baby and asking her for one last dance.
Aidan was given the chance to hold Toya's little girl in the pub - and he suddenly realised the baby is his.
He later confirmed it to Eva as he told her: "I got to see the baby - I got to hold her.
"I totally understand why you lied about being pregnant last year.
"Watching Peter and Toyah with that baby - that baby had a lucky escape - no one would want me to be their dad."
The former couple then shared a tender moment as they embraced as they played song they never got a chance to dance to at their wedding.
They even exchanged I love yous, with Eva breaking down in tears.
Aidan said: "Before I messed everything up - this was always when I was most happy - it was nice, me you."
He left her and went to the pub where he made peace with Toyah, telling her "your secret's safe with me" and then bought one final round before sitting in silence as his friends talked.
Aidan ignored a call from Eva after she found he had left her ring in a box for her.
He was then seen sitting on his sofa at home alone sobbing in the darkness.
The scene then faded, leaving fans utterly distraught.
They flocked to Twitter to declare it is the saddest episode of all time.
One wrote:The saddest episode I’ve ever watched. The emotional impact this story has had is profound and to see the way @shayneTward has portrayed Aidan’s turmoil has been heartbreaking. I’m so grateful to #Corrie for raising awareness. Talking could save lives. 💔"
Another wrote: "Saddest episode of #Corrie 💔 going to miss @shayneTward 😭."
A third tweeted: "Cried so much at #corrie I was actually sick. My god. Saddest thing I've ever seen."
