THE new Avengers movie is called Infinity War – and I imagine that’s what Jeremy Renner had with the creators when he saw it.
The American actor, who plays Hawkeye in the franchise, shot scenes in Edinburgh last year but embarrassingly had his character completely cut from the movie.
He turned down a part in Mission: Impossible 6 to be part of the Marvel blockbuster and suffered a fractured elbow and wrist on set, yet is nowhere to be seen in the latest instalment.
It passed the $1billion (£737million) mark at the international box office on Saturday, having had the biggest global opening of all time the weekend before, when it pulled in £465million.
But Jeremy has missed out on being part of its phenomenal success.
A movie insider said: “Hawkeye was very much a part of the original script and Jeremy filmed scenes last year. Marvel films vast amounts of footage and it was eventually decided his character was superfluous and his sections were cut.
“The only mention of him is one throwaway line where it’s explained that his character is on house arrest.
“That was put in during reshoots to cover their backs after it was decided Hawkeye was to be removed.”
It’s the latest blow for Jeremy’s character Hawkeye. Two years ago he moaned about the storylines for the archer.
He said: “In the first Avengers . . . I was just getting to know who Hawkeye was, and then zap, I go round like a zombie, I’m like Loki’s minion.
“So I’m a little frustrated, because I was so excited to figure out who Hawkeye was.”
A Disney spokesman refused to comment.
Director Joe Russo has promised Hawkeye will return for the concluding part of Avengers next year.
Perhaps he will have more luck then.

Alexa's 'ex appeal
YOU’VE got to hand it to Alexa Chung – she’s a fast mover.
The model was last pictured with Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard in March but has since moved on with her former flame Matthew Hitt.
Alexa and model Matthew, who dated in 2014, still looked like a perfect match as they were snapped sharing a giggle out in New York at the weekend.
It’s not the first time that Alexa has gone back to an ex after she was spotted with Arctic Monkey frontman Alex Turner last November.
She clearly has a thing for men named Alex.

Katy's got that lovin' frilling
KATY Perry made a frilling entrance in Los Angeles in this vibrant red dress with shoulder detail.
The singer ditched her blonde crop in favour of her signature brunette locks for Sunday night’s filming of American Idol.
Katy, a judge on the show, got all hot and bothered over 21-year-old contestant Cade Foehner who made it into the top five on the talent show. She told Texas rocker Cade, who views his music as Christian ministry: “I know you’re a man of God but honestly I was feeling a little backslidden watching over you.
“I don’t know what is coming over me – I could be your babysitter.”

JOHN Newman reckons his brain tumour hasn’t grown thanks to his optimism. The singer said: “The surgeon goes, ‘We’ve done an MRI and after this year it’s not grown.’ I genuinely think that’s down to a positive mindset.”
At last - Kate's best mates with the states once more
KATE Moss has spent the last 13 years missing out on A-list Hollywood events after struggling to secure a US visa.
But now the supermodel has finally been allowed back into the States after resolving the issue.
Problems with Kate visiting America started in 2005 after she was pictured snorting a white powder, thought to be cocaine.
In 2013 US magazine Playboy even had to relocate its 60th anniversary celebrations from Los Angeles to London after realising its cover star – Kate – wouldn’t be able to attend otherwise.
And it sounds like Ms Moss – who wore this leather jacket, right, with its provocative slogan painted on the back – made up for lost time by appearing at New York’s Met Gala again, having first attended the fund- raising fashion bash back in 1995.
Hopefully she will be on her best behaviour this time around.
I'd take a role that is pants, says Benedict
HE HAS never been shy about campaigning on controversial issues but actor Benedict Cumberbatch’s latest stand might get a few of his fellow colleagues’ backs up.
The Doctor Strange and Sherlock star says blokes in the entertainment business should reject work if female counterparts are taking home less pay than them.
Benedict has even suggested they ask what the actresses are being paid to ensure complete equality.
He said: “Equal pay and a place at the table are the central tenets of feminism. Look at your quotas.
“Ask what women are paid, and say, ‘If she’s not paid the same as the men, I’m not doing it.’”
In the Radio Times interview, Benedict also claimed he would be happy to turn the tables and be an objectified man in a female- dominated movie.
He said: “If it’s good enough for Chris Pine in Wonder Woman, it’s good enough for Benedict Cumberbatch.
“Yeah! Definitely. Like, just in your pants? Slow pan up from the feet to the head, with sexy, screaming saxophone music in the background?
“Ha ha ha, yes! So long as it was fun. I’d have to be in good shape, though. Prepare.”
Benedict was talking ahead of his new Sky Atlantic TV drama Patrick Melrose, which starts on Sunday, and in which he plays the title role.
The character is based on writer Edward St Aubyn, who is even more upper-class than the Harrow-educated actor.
Benedict said: “He’s properly posh. Everyone goes on about the posh thing with me but despite looking it, I am not that class.
“That class is landed gentry. I had to posh up for this.”
I didn’t think anyone could be posher than Benedict.

Stunts will be the baking of Sophie
BAKE Off winner Sophie Faldo has gone from making crumbles to faking tumbles.
She’s returned to her day job as a stuntwoman and landed a role on her first Hollywood film.
Sophie appears alongside Bond Girl Rosamund Pike, who starred opposite 007 Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day, and actor Clive Owen in action film Three Seconds, which is out in August.
It is believed Sophie filmed her scenes for the movie last summer, weeks after winning Bake Off. A source said: “After her victory Sophie could have pursued loads of deals. Instead she focused on her stuntwoman training. Perhaps she feels she’ll have more success in film-making than baking – or it’s where she’s more in demand.”
Sophie, an expert in taekwondo and equestrian stunts, admitted: “I’m not an amazing actress but I love being on set and I love the physical side of it. I love being behind the scenes.”
Given how quiet she’s been since winning Bake Off, that’s probably for the best.
