Coronation Street fans praise Shayne Ward as Aidan Connor’s suicide story develops
X Factor champion Shayne Ward will leave the role of Aidan next week in emotionally-charged scenes
CORONATION Street viewers have praised Shayne Ward's portrayal of Aidan Connor's struggle as the suicide storyline gears up for a dramatic conclusion.
Friday night's double episode saw factory owner Aidan make amends with friends and family as he begins to show doubts over baby Susie's parentage.
With his final scenes expected to air next week, Shayne has had fans raving about his emotionally-charged performance.
One commented: "Watching Aidan on @itvcorrie is absolutely breaking my heart knowing what's to come. Mental illness is an invisible illness. Just shows someone can look so happy on the outside but they're completely broken. Well done to @ShayneTWard for raising awareness."
Another viewer put: "@ShayneTward, you've played the part with so much respect."
A third Corrie fan tweeted: "@ShayneTWard is already breaking my heart."
Viewers were emotional as Aidan made amends with friends and family ahead of his passing.
He told former flame Maria about his plans to give Eva Price her engagement ring and paid a visit to his father Johnny.
One fan tweeted: "Oh seeing Aidan kind of tying up loose ends is so hard knowing what's coming for him. But it's so important to run this story to show the reality of men's mental health."
Another simply put: "Aidan is breaking my heart."
Earlier this week the former X Factor winner revealed he had chatted to the show’s producer Kate Oates about whether Aidan would leave a suicide note after taking his life.
They decided he would start to "build up better relationships" with his friends and family in the weeks before his death to show he's a "good guy".

Speaking on This Morning, Shayne said: "We didn't know how to approach the suicide note thing. A lot of people don't leave suicide notes, some people do.
"He gives his dad a golf membership, he made sure everyone got their jobs back at the factory, he gives little Liam his expensive watch.
"Just little things, he was building up better relationships so people could see Aidan was a good guy."
