The show gripped audiences from the moment it launched on ITV in 1998, as contestants put their general knowledge to the test for the chance to win life-changing sums of money. Some managed to claim the top prize.
Tonight sees the start of a week-long series of shows to mark its 20th anniversary – with Sun columnist Jeremy Clarkson replacing Chris Tarrant in the hot seat.
Chris posed the questions until the show finished in February 2014.

When she won she bought pads in both countries. It also got her a job appearing on BBC2 quiz show Eggheads.

DAVID EDWARDS, 71, Staffs, 2001.

PAT GIBSON, 56, Wigan, 2004.
The Irishman still gets recognised as a winner.
He banked most of his winnings and went part-time in his job as a software developer.
He joined Judith as one of TV’s Eggheads in 2009.
