Who is Ben Whishaw?

Benjamin John Whishaw was born in Clifton, Bedfordshire on October 14, 1980.

The 41-year-old is of English, French, Russian and German descent, and his family's original surname was Stellmacher, not Whishaw.

The star has a fraternal twin called James.

The actor studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 2003.

He got his first big acting role as the lead in Trevor Nunn's 2004 production of Hamlet at the Old Vic.

Whishaw received highly positive reviews and was even nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Actor.

What has Ben Whishaw starred in?

Ben has starred in a number of big budget movies over the years, including Layer Cake, The Danish Girl, and The Lobster.

One of his best-known roles is as Q in the James Bond franchise.

Ben first played the character in 2012's Skyfall, taking over from John Cleese.

He resumed the role in 2015's Spectre and 2021's No Time To Die.

Ben also voiced the main character in animated movie Paddington and its  2017 sequel, as well as the TV series The Adventures of Paddington.

In 2018, he shared the big screen with the likes of Colin Firth and Emily Blunt in Mary Poppins Returns.

As for his TV accomplishments, the actor has been in numerous projects including Richard II, London Spy, and A Very English Scandal.

In 2020, he starred in the fourth season of the black comedy crime drama Fargo, portraying Patrick "Rabbi".

Ben Whishaw is taking on the lead role in the new BBC drama This is Going to Hurt, premiering on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

The seven-part series is based on the real-life experiences of writer Adam Kay during his time on the NHS frontline, which he documented in his book of the same name.

Who is Ben Whishaw dating?

Ben Whishaw came out as gay publicly in 2013.

The year before, in August 2012, Whishaw married Australian composer Mark Bradshaw.

The couple first met on the set of Bright Star in 2009, and entered a civil partnership three years later.

He has since publicly discussed coming out, saying that it was a tense experience but "everyone was surprisingly lovely".
