Who is Ashley Judd?

Ashley Judd, 50, was born Ashley Tyler Ciminella on April 19, 1968.

She is an American actress and political activist.

Ashley grew up in a family of singers, and is the the daughter of country music singer Naomi Judd and the half-sister of Wynonna Judd.

While she is best known for acting, more recently she has increasingly become involved in global humanitarian efforts and political activism.

Ashley is worth £16 million.

Why is Ashley Judd suing Harvey Weinstein?

On May 1, 2018 The Sun reported how Ashley is suing disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein for allegedly "blacklisting" her from Hollywood after she rejected his advances.

Ashely claims her career withered because the mogul spread "baseless smears" to The Lord Of The Rings director Sir Peter Jackson to scupper her chance of landing a role in the trilogy.

In December, Sir Peter confirmed he did not cast Judd or Mira Sorvino, who also alleges she was sexually harassed by Weinstein, because of a "smear campaign" by Miramax, which was co-founded by Weinstein.

In the new lawsuit, Ashely's lawyer Theodore Boutrous Jr said Weinstein "torpedoed" her opportunity to work on the films by claiming she was a "nightmare" who should be avoided "at all costs".

A spokeswoman for Weinstein refuted the claims of Ashley and Sir Peter and said the shamed producer would launch a "vigorous defence".
