Who is Jim McDonald?

Jim McDonald, played by Charlie Lawson, is an Irishman from Belfast.

He first appeared in Coronation Street with his wife Liz in 1989 and last appeared in the soap in 2014.

From 2000-2007 Jim served a prison sentence for manslaughter after beating up Jez Quigley who later died.

This was revenge for Jez beating up Jim's son Steve who testified against the drug dealer for killing Tony Horrocks.

Jim went to prison again in 2011 after attempting to rob a building society and holding the customers hostage.

In 2014 he made an appearance as the prison "landlord" when Peter Barlow was wrongly sent down for the murder of Tina McIntyre.

When is Jim McDonald returning to Coronation Street?

Beverley Callard - who plays Liz McDonald in Coronation Street -  seemed to 'confirm' the return of her on-screen ex husband Jim McDonald.

The actress let slip the secret on Loose Women on April 2, 2019.

As the Beverley, 62, chatted about what was coming up on the ITV soap, she hinted that viewers will be seeing a lot more Liz and Jim drama - and even compared the characters to the reportedly real-life reunion of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew.

"We've got some really good stuff coming up. The summer and autumn are quite amazing," she told the Loose Women panel.

"In fact, I quite think that Andrew and Fergie are like Liz and Jim... they've been married twice to each other!".

A Corrie spokesperson told The Sun Online that there were no current plans to bring back Jim McDonald.

He previously returned to the cobbles for a short period last year on Friday September 7, 2018.

Jim turned up unexpectedly at his son Steve's stag do in the Rovers and was met with a frosty reception.

Jim was sent to prison in 2011 after trying to rob a bank so that Steve and Liz would have enough money to buy the Rovers.

Did Jim McDonald and Liz have a daughter?

Jim and Liz McDonald had a daughter called Katie who was born on New Year's Day 1992.

But she died prematurely the following day in hospital.

Now Katie is pretending to be that same daughter by claiming that a mix up at the hospital meant she was adopted by a couple who later moved to Australia.

In an unexpected twist Jim and Katie, his fake dead daughter, are actually lovers!

In 2000 they remarried shortly before Jim was sent to prison for manslaughter.

In 2003 Jim feared Liz was having an affair so he broke out of prison with the help of Steve to go and see her.

In 2005 Liz once again asked for a divorce.
