Avicii fans demand to know why Netflix has ‘removed’ his documentary following his shock death
AVICII fans are demanding to know why Netflix appears to have removed his documentary following the shocking news of his death last week.
The DJ passed away suddenly in Oman aged just 28.
His True Stories documentary was released at the end of 2017 and had been available to watch on the popular streaming website in the UK.
But fans have claimed that after Avicii – real name Tim Bergling – died on April 20, it was taken down.
In the UK and Europe, fans trying to access the film on their subscription service have been greeted with a Netflix Site Error warning.
Hundreds of his fans have demanded answers from Netflix and are want to know just why they seemingly removed the film.
One tweeted: “Hey @netflix, why did you take down the @Avicii True Stories documentary? Many of us would like to honor his life by watching (or re-watching) the doc. #ripaviciii.”
Another commented: “Noticed that Netflix has suddenly removed Avicii True Stories following the news of his death. Have they even issued a statement regarding this? It's barely a month since it became available on the platform in selected countries and it's gone all in a sudden. EXPLAIN, NETFLIX.”
While a third told Netflix: “Google told me that Avicii’s documentary is supposed to be on Netflix which it’s not. I even called called Netflix’s customer service this afternoon and they didn’t help. Eff you Netflix.”
In fact Netflix licensed the documentary in the UK from December 2016 to December 2017. It is currently available in France, Italy, Spain and the Nordics. It was never licensed on US Netflix.
The documentary was directed by Levan Tsikurishvili, a close friend of Tim’s who followed him to document his rise to fame.
Levan said of the film: “I wanted to do a brutally honest film about Tim as a person and not only about Avicii.
“Everybody knows Avicii but very few people know Tim. I think this documentary really shows Tim’s struggle and strength of character. Being a worldwide superstar artist is not as easy as it looks on Instagram.”
Yesterday, The Sun Online revealed how some of the footage revealed Avicii’s desperate health struggles.
In one clip, he even predicted his own death and opened up about taking a cocktail of highly addictive prescription drugs.
Avicii finally quit touring in March 2016 – after performing live a staggering 813 times since getting his break in 2008.
