One tweeted: “Hey @netflix, why did you take down the @Avicii True Stories documentary? Many of us would like to honor his life by watching (or re-watching) the doc. #ripaviciii.”

Another commented: “Noticed that Netflix has suddenly removed Avicii True Stories following the news of his death. Have they even issued a statement regarding this? It's barely a month since it became available on the platform in selected countries and it's gone all in a sudden. EXPLAIN, NETFLIX.”

While a third told Netflix: “Google told me that Avicii’s documentary is supposed to be on Netflix which it’s not. I even called called Netflix’s customer service this afternoon and they didn’t help. Eff you Netflix.”

In fact Netflix licensed the documentary in the UK from December 2016 to December 2017. It is currently available in France, Italy, Spain and the Nordics. It was never licensed on US Netflix.

The documentary was directed by Levan Tsikurishvili, a close friend of Tim’s who followed him to document his rise to fame.

Levan said of the film: “I wanted to do a brutally honest film about Tim as a person and not only about Avicii.

“Everybody knows Avicii but very few people know Tim. I think this documentary really shows Tim’s struggle and strength of character. Being a worldwide superstar artist is not as easy as it looks on Instagram.”
