Coronation Street’s Shona Ramsey will take ‘extreme’ revenge on David Platt’s rapist Josh Tucker
The Sun Online's new weekly soap column brings you exclusive interviews, the biggest soap news and all the spoilers you could need
CORONATION Street rapist Josh Tucker is not going to know what hit him when Shona Ramsey discovers what he did to David Platt.
Actress Julia Goulding - who plays Shona in the ITV soap - has teased what's going to happen to him, hinting that "words won't be all she uses" when it comes to holding the sexual predator to account.
Corrie fans know how Josh drugged and sexually assaulted David in harrowing scenes, causing his life to spiral out of control and dump Shona after being unable to cope with the shame of what happened to him.
But with Shona not knowing what's gone on, she's heartbroken by David's betrayal and it won't be long before she discovers the truth.
And when she does Josh should be very worried.
Teasing a confrontation with Josh, Julia told The Sun Online's Soap Bubble she will react with "extreme anger and disgust".
She added: "I don't think words could give it justice, the feeling she would have towards this man.
"He's a rapist, he's attacked the person she loves most and destroyed so many lives."
Fortunately Julia also revealed that Shona will be there for David, despite all the heartbreak he has caused her.
"It will change everything [when she finds out]," Julia said.
"Everything that's happened, I imagine, would go out the window because it's such a serious, horrific thing to have happened to him.
"She loves him with all her heart and that's why it's so painful for her. You don't just stop loving someone overnight like that when you've been dumped."
Her on-screen chemistry with co-star Jack P. Shepherd has seen the pair tackle some heavy-hitting storylines and it's one of these that leaps out for Julia from her time on the cobbles.
"Obviously the scene where Shona reveals she's Clayton's mum is the one that sticks out.
"Mainly because that day it was sunny, it was rainy, it snowed, it hail-stoned, it couldn't have been weirder weather and we were outside all day stuck in a graveyard.
"It was the first time Jack and I got our teeth stuck into stuff and that was the moment I really knew I could really work well with Jack."
But off-screen it's her chemistry with co-star Nicola Thorp that causes confusion as the pair frequently get mixed up for each other.
Laughing, she said: "I can confirm I'm not Nicola Thorp.
"I don't think we look alike, I think we're two women with brown hair. We're both feminist, we have the same mannerisms, and we have the same sense of humour without a doubt.
"I mean she's about six inches taller than me for a start but she's wonderful and I can't think of anyone else I would rather be compared to."
And Julia's fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Shona won't find herself wrapped up in the murderous return of Pat Phelan - which suits Julia just fine because she loves watching the show even now.
"He's been fantastic to watch though, hasn't he? Absolutely brilliant," she said of Connor McIntyre's award-winning performance as the serial killing villain.
She added: "I like to keep things a surprise to myself because I still enjoy watching the show."
Though she doesn't always get to enjoy her own scenes, joking: "Oh it's horrific, but it's nice to watch from a professional level to see where I feel I can do better.
"It still just makes me smile so much that I'm on Coronation Street, I can't believe it."
* Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
SCENE OF THE WEEK
Rainie's surprise EastEnders return
Admittedly it's not the most explosive bombshell Max Branning has dropped but marrying Rainie Cross has to be up there.
The happy-ish news came in the form of a now clean Rainie stopping Kat Slater from slapping the life out of Max for everything he put Stacey through.
Fortunately everyone Rainie's delightful personality had touched seemed to be in the bar to experience the sheer horror of watching her kiss Max.
BIGGEST SOAP NEWS
Coronation Street tackles male suicide
Outgoing Corrie boss Kate Oates has one more important storyline to take on before she leaves - male suicide.
The soap has worked extensively with charity The Samaritans in the hard-hitting storyline that will see Aidan Connor take his own life, as his secret battle with depression is laid bare.
Speaking to The Sun Online, Kate Oates said: “I was nervous that it might be misunderstood and people think we were doing it [the storyline] for a different reason.
“I want to make it really clear that the message we want to get across, if you can speak out, if you can find the words, someone will listen. You have nothing to lose. Just try it."
She added: “I’ve worked in serial drama for 15 years and suicide stories have been raised and discussed on every show I’ve worked on.
“Generally they are treated with fear because the biggest thing that can go wrong is that it triggers somebody.
“You would feel responsible that someone might copy it. You fear it glamorises it. A vulnerable person watches it and doesn’t take strength from it. It’s that overriding fear that stops people from telling these stories.
“However, 84 men kill themselves every week. I’ve worked on helplines for desperate and suicidal people.
“Not talking is not working. The fears I felt [about doing this storyline] are legitimate fears but we need to over come them and we need to put out something truthful."
