Who was Avicii?

Avicii - real name Tim Bergling - was a Swedish DJ and musician.

The musician was born in Stockholm on September 8, 1989, and died on Friday April 20, 2018 in Muscat, Oman.

He chose the name Avicii - which means "the lowest level of Buddhist hell” - because his real name was already taken on MySpace.

He shot to fame with his Levels single in 2011, and followed it up in 2013 with the award-winning hit Wake Me Up.

Avicii had a net worth of $85 million (£61 million) at the time of his death.

How did the Wake Me Up DJ die?

Avicii was found dead in Muscat, Oman, on April 20 2018.

On April 26, 2018, his family confirmed that he had taken his own life.

In a statement they said: "Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions.

"When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most — music…

"He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace."

Who is Avicci's ex-girlfriend Tereza Kacerova and what has she said about his death?

Model Tereza Kacerova, 25, has revealed that she was in a secret relationship with Avicii before he died.

She has said that trolls have blamed her for his death online and she has turned to alcohol to cope with the tragedy.

On Instagram she wrote: "A lot of vultures stepped out of the shadows.

"You have accused me of ‘exposing Tim’ to get ‘fame and money’ while throwing every insult under the sun my way."

What illness did Avicci have?

In 2017 Avicii stopped touring and doing live performances after being diagnosed with pancreatitis from excessive drinking.

He was forced to have an emergency appendectomy and have his gallbladder removed.

He said at the time: "I'm still traumatised. But I'm sure I will again.

"I've started being able to listen to music again, getting a little bit of that joy back.”

However, the 28-year-old was also filmed with a drink in his hand just one day before his death.
