CORONATION Street lothario Steve McDonald is to become the most prolific groom in British soap history by getting married for the seventh time.
Steve, played by Simon Gregson, 43, will get down on one knee to pop the question to Tracy Barlow, played by Kate Ford, 41, in scenes to air in the coming weeks.
It will be the second time the pair have been wed after first marrying in 2012 — and then separating at the reception after a blazing row.
And once Steve has said “I do” again, he will have been married more times than King Henry VIII — who had a total of six wives during his reign.
A Corrie source said: “Steve McDonald might not be the best looking bloke in soap history, but boy has he had some romances.
“In the next few weeks he will be seen going down on one knee to Tracy, who duly accepts.
“It’s the seventh time he’s been married, but writers are still to decide if they’ll get down the aisle, as love is never straightforward in Weatherfield.”
Steve’s on-screen dad Jim, played by Charlie Lawson, 58, is expected to return for the scenes.
He was last seen on the soap in 2014 doing time for his role in a bank robbery.
Steve has been in the soap since 1989 and has been married to five women in that time.
He was first wed to Vicky Arden, played by Chloe Newsome, from 1995 to 1997.
Suranne Jones’ character Karen Phillips was next, from 2001 to 2003.
They were then apart for a year, during which time Steve got Tracy pregnant with their daughter Amy.
Steve and Karen remarried in 2004 but it ended in 2006.
From 2009 to 2011 he was with Becky Granger, played by Katherine Kelly, before his first union with Tracy.
In 2015, he wed Michelle Connor, played by Kym Marsh. They had a son together, Ruairi, but he was born prematurely and did not survive.
They split last year after Steve confessed to fathering a son, Oliver, after a one-night stand with Leanne Battersby
