Who is Alexis Georgoulis?
Alexis Georgoulis, 43, was born October 6, 1974.
He originally studied to become a civil engineer before starting acting lessons in 1996.
Alexis became a household name in Greece after starring in the 2001 comedy series Eisai to Tairi mou.
His first international film came in the 2009 romantic comedy My Life in Ruins alongside Oscar-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss.
Who Alexis' character Spiro in The Durrells?
Alexis plays Spiro Hakaiopoulos, a cab driver and close family friend who helps the family settle during their temporary life on the island in the 1930s.
Spiro is particularly close to matriarch Louisa Durrell who is played by former Ashes to Ashes actress Keeley Hawes.
However, Alexis is not the only actor to take over the role. During its first on-screen adaption n 1987, the part was played by celebrated English actor Brian Blessed with a Greek accent.
In 2005, it was adapted by the BBC into a 90-minute film with Imelda Staunton and stand-up comedian Omid Djalili took over the role.
