Samia Longchambon shares incredible Coronation Street throwback to celebrate co-star Andy Whyment’s birthday

SAMIA Longchambon has shared an incredible throwback picture of her Coronation Street co-stars to celebrate Andy Whyment's birthday.

The actress - who plays Maria Connor in the ITV soap - posted the snap on her Instagram page today as Andy - who plays her on-screen brother Kirk Sutherland - enjoyed his 37th birthday.

The picture was taken at Blackpool's North Pier and sees a baby-faced Samia, 35, and Andy posing in front of a green trolley car alongside co-stars Jennie McAlpine (Fiz Stape), Alan Hansall (Tyrone Dobbs), Georgia Taylor (Toyah Battersby) and Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw).

As Samia and Jennie held on to some colourful Blackpool rock, Ryan, 33, cheekily bit into his as he sat on top of the trolley car.

Meanwhile Georgia - who returned as Toyah during the Christmas 2016 episodes following a 13 year absence - held onto a pink Kiss Me Quick cowboy hat and covered her eyes with a pair of sunglasses.

Samia captioned the shot: "A very Happy birthday to my on screen brother and oldest friend of 30 years @andywhy36 .. love you And, have a fab day with your gorgeous family.

Samia has been on the show since 2000 - as has Andy - and while Jennie and Alan are also still on the show, Ryan left the cobbles in June 2016, just before Georgia returned.

While the gang looked like they were having loads of fun filming the show back in 2001, the soap has come under fire lately over some of its darker storylines.

Ofcom is investigating whether ITV breached guidelines on the pre-watershed show after receiving 622 complaints over Pat Phelan's murder rampage.

But Kate, 38, told the : “I’m not going anywhere. The show’s in a good place, the figures are up year on year.

"I’ve become more resilient to criticism. It drives me a little nuts but goes with the territory.”

She said the show still likes a laugh pointing out that Dolly-Rose Campbell won best comedy performance at the British Soap Awards for her turn as Gemma Winter.

Kate added: “You can still get gallows humour, funny one-liners. Our writers are brilliant.’’
