Ruth was born in Norwich, Norfolk, on 16 April 1943 - that makes her 74.
She has starred in a string of films and television shows throughout her lengthy career, but her most notable role was playing Gladys Pugh in the 1980s BBC television comedy Hi-de-Hi!
The role saw Ruth received a BAFTA TV award nomination for Best Light Entertainment Performance.
Madoc also played Daffyd Thomas's mother in the second series of Little Britain.
The actress has been married twice.
She wed actor Philip Madoc in 1961, but the pair divorced in 1981. They had a son, Rhys, and a daughter, Lowri.
Ruth married husband, John Jackson, in 1982.
