Princes William and Harry make a Star Wars cameo appearance with Tom Hardy as stormtroopers in deleted scene

The scene - which has been unveiled ahead of the DVD release in April - takes place during a daring mission into the First Order base, where Rose and Finn must disguise themselves and disable a tracking device in order to save their friends.

Finn - who ditched his Stormtrooper role to fight with the rebels - hopes to return to his old stomping ground incognito, but he's spotted by a former colleague who is surprised to see him in an officer uniform.

Adopting a Southern accent, Tom Hardy's Stormtrooper drawls: "FN-2187? You don't remember me?"

Thankfully for the plucky heroes, the Stormtrooper doesn't suspect their trespassing and instead congratulates Finn on the promotion with a cheeky slap on the bum.

Prince William and Harry don't have any lines but can be seen stood behind Finn during the altercation.

It was reported that the scenes were cut due to Prince William's height - with a source telling the : "Stormtroopers have to be exactly 5ft 11in. At the time we shot it I think the feeling was that the scene would make the final movie.

"Everyone feels bad that William and Harry lost out on their big moment. However, the scene just didn't work for the final cut so it was left out."

However, it's highly unlikely that the Prince's towering stature was the reason because where in Episode II to VI the Stromtroopers were clones with identical height, the recent trilogy sees the First Order use human conscripts of different heights.

It seems like anyone who's anyone can land a role in a Star Wars movie after The Last Jedi also included cameo appearances from Gary Barlow, Lily Cole and Justin Theroux.

2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens included a cameo from James Bond actor Daniel Craig as a Stormtrooper mind-controlled by Daisy Ridley's force-sensitive hero Rey.

John Boyega - who portrays Finn - recently revealed when Episode IX will begin shooting.

He was appearing on The One Show to promote latest project, Pacific Rim: Uprising when hosts Angelica Bell and Matt Allwright quizzed John on Star Wars secrets.
