Neighbours fans praise Ryan Thomas’ ‘heartfelt’ gay sex scene
NEIGHBOURS fans have heaped praise on Ryan Thomas following his gay sex scene with co-star Takaya Honda.
The emotional moment saw former Coronation Street star Ryan’s character Rafael – who only recent came out – getting very close with David, who’s exploring his sexuality.
Their scenes were made even more poignant as David gave Raphael the confidence to take all his clothes off and reveal the scars he got in a fire.
As the pair stood facing one another in a darkened room, David asked Raphael: “You haven’t done this much have you?
“That makes two of us, I only came out last year. I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed.”
David then encouraged Raphael to take off his shirt, telling him: “I know what it’s like to be self-conscious.
“It’s just you and me here.”
The touching scene saw Raphael then strip off his clothes and allow David to see his scarred back.
Kissing passionately, the cameras then panned away and allowed viewers to guess what could have happened next.
Ryan has previously opened up about his character’s struggle with his sexual identity.
“You’ll see the stress that Rafael goes through with his emotions and feelings towards somebody, and everybody else. It’s not something that is black and white and that’s the joy of this character.”
Fans of the Channel 5 soap praised the scenes, with one tweeting: “Shocked me how emotional I got watching David and Raf's bedroom scene...it was really Raw and heartfelt. Beautiful work guys.”
Another commented: “I absolutely loved the implied sex scene tonight! It was just so beautiful. Huzzah for LGBT pride! It's so refreshing to see a gay sex scene!”
A third said: “Feel so lucky that #neighbours is so inclusive and has always taken a stance for advocacy, celebrating every community. so worth it to be a fan of a show that cares about me back.”
