Coronation Street’s Michael Le Vell went broke after letting his finances ‘spiral out of control after his divorce’
Soap star was declared bankrupt earlier this week and now insiders claim Michael’s divorce from Janette Beverley led to his financial downfall
MICHAEL Le Vell was declared bankrupt because his finances “spiralled out of control after his divorce”, according to a new report.
It’s claimed the Coronation Street actor, who earns £250,000 a year to play mechanic Kevin Webster, struggled to keep watch on his spending after his split with Janette Beverley in 2011.
Insiders told that Janette “looked after the money” throughout their 25 year marriage and alleged 53-year-old Michael took his eye off the ball.
A source claimed: “She controlled the purse strings so kept him in line.
“Now he’s on his own it has all spiralled out of control.”
It’s reported Michael owed a six figure sum when he was declared bust by the High Court.
Despite his financial woes, a pal told the publication how Michael was determined to move on.
An insider explained: “He sees this as another life lesson – he is not wallowing in self-pity. Things are on the up, he is loving work and he is not going to let this define him.
“It's a bit of a mystery to his friends how he has found himself in such a pickle, especially as he was suspended on full pay during the trial.”
The Sun previously revealed that the Corrie star had gone bust after paying out £200,000 in legal fees in a trial over child abuse claims in 2013.
