Kate Garraway steps in after Lorraine Kelly calls in sick for her show
KATE Garraway saved the day today as she stepped in for Lorraine Kelly after the TV host was too sick to present her show.
Viewers were shocked when they tuned in expecting to see the Scottish presenter only to find Kate, 50, in her place.
Kate explained: "Good Morning, I'm Kate Garraway, standing in for Lorraine who's feeling a bit poorly.
"She's been struck down by the lurgy this morning so I'm here instead, so get well soon Lorraine if you're watching."
Viewers were quick to comment on Lorraine's absence, with one writing on Twitter: "No Lorraine presenting #Lorraine today? How will I ever cope?"
As Kate started talking to Ross King in America about Sunday night's Oscars, she revealed how little notice she had had to get to the studio.
She joked: "Morning Ross, I was in bed half an hour ago, they can make you up fast here can't they?
"They dust you down and sort you out."
Kate's guest stint comes a few days after she slammed Vogue editor Anna Wintour for wearing sunglasses to meet the Queen at London Fashion Week.
The 50-year-old mocked the influential fashion icon by wearing her trademark bug-eyed shades to host Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid, 47.
As the camera zoomed in on Kate - who is standing in for Piers Morgan - and Susanna, the co-host did not look dissimilar to the fashionista with her dark blonde bob.
Susanna joked: "Do you want to explain why you're wearing a pair of sunglasses in the studio?"
Kate replied: "This is what you do when you're in the presence of the Queen."
She was making reference to the Queen's appearance on the front row to watch fashion designer Richard Quinn's catwalk show at London Fashion Week.
The Queen was sat next to Anna, the British editor of American Vogue, who kept her sunglasses on throughout the show, despite being indoors.
Kate later said: "It does hide the bags, mind."
Susanna replied: "You haven't got bags!"
She finished the segment by criticising the fashion journalist one final time: "She should have taken them off."
