STARS have spent hours ensuring they looked their very best for tonight's Oscars red carpet.

However, with the world's cameras upon them, many slipped up - here are the funniest moments from stars arriving at the 90th Academy Awards.

Not all of those gracing the red carpet were thought to be quite famous enough it seems.

American ski racer Lindsey Vonn had her name held up on a placard by an Oscars employee as she posed for the cameras.

Shortly behind her was Jennifer Lawrence who seemed to be in good spirits ahead of the ceremony.

The actress had onlookers in stitches as she stood theatrically on the red carpet.

The former Oscar winner ensured she was centre of attention as she made her way inside the ceremony.

Clutching a glass of wine, she hitched up her gown and climbed over seats to make sure she got a decent view of the awards.

She spoke to other guests animatedly, but at one point looked rather miserable as she travelled to her seat.

Also experiencing a mix of emotions was Laura Dern who was snapped mid-laugh outside the event.

The actress appeared to have been told a very funny joke as she mingled among the crowd outside the ceremony.

She was joined on the red carpet by Sam Rockwell and Leslie Bibb who were snapped looking less than ready for their shot.

As she accepted her award, Frances took the moment to celebrate women who were nominated, and in a bold statement in the midst of the Time’s Up movement, invited all female nominees to stand in solidarity with her during her speech.

The British also won big during the evening – with WWII epics Dunkirk and The Darkest Hour both bringing home a number of gongs.

Jimmy Kimmel reveals what happened during the Best Picture envelope fiasco at Oscars 2017

Jimmy has returned to host the swanky awards ceremony for a second year and wowed the audience in the Dolby Theatre and at home with his opening monologue.

For many, as well as the night’s big winners, it was all about the fashion.

Gal Gadot and Margot Robbie topped the best dressed lists with their glamorous gowns.

But not everyone hit the spot with their style choices and Salma Hayek and Nicole Kidman were panned by the fashion pack.
