Ed Sheeran builds idyllic chapel in grounds of his country mansion – sparking speculation that’s where he will marry fiancée Cherry Seaborn
SUPERSTAR Ed Sheeran has sparked speculation he is set to marry his fiancee in a private chapel he is building in the grounds of his country mansion.
The Castle On The Hill singer, 27, lodged plans for a Saxon-style flint church a few yards from his Suffolk home, just days after announcing his engagement to girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, 25.
The 32ft tall chapel can host a congregation of up to 24 and is being built by architects who have previously worked on Windsor Castle and London’s Somerset House.
A source said: “Even though Ed is one of the world’s biggest stars he does like to do things privately, like his engagement.
“Having his wedding on his own land would mean they could celebrate their big day with just their nearest and dearest and then head back to the main house of a big party after.”
Public planning documents show that four-time Grammy winner Ed will not be hiring out the romantic setting for weddings but does not rule out the couple themselves tying the knot there.
In the document Ed says it’s essential he builds the place of worship so he has somewhere to “retreat for contemplation and prayer.”
He also says high-profile house guests would use it to “regenerate their spiritual strength.”
Officials at East Suffolk Council are expected to make a decision in April, paving the way for a possible summer wedding for Ed and Cherry.
The planning application to build the chapel on former agricultural land has been lodged in the name of Matthew Seaborn, Cherry’s architect dad.

Ed announced he was engaged to former school pal Cherry in January, having dated since 2015.
The grammy winner's luxury new build already boasts an indoor swimming pool, mobile pool, gym, treehouse, cart lodge, Hobbit-style “man cave” and ornamental pond.
The down-to-earth singer bought it for £895,000 in 2015, so he could be close to his parents Imogen and John, who live in Framlingham, where Ed grew up.
