SAOIRSE Ronan is preparing to compete for an Oscar on Sunday but she's already being tipped for success at next year's ceremony with her new movie On Chesil Beach.

A trailer has finally dropped for the hotly-anticipated film and there's already talk of a 2019 Academy Award nod.

In the British film, Saoirse, 23, plays a woman who struggles to get intimate with her new husband in an adaptation of Ian McEwan’s 2007 novella.

Billy Howle plays her husband and the film charts their romance from their first meeting to their wedding day.

The strait-laced couple struggle to deal with intimacy issues - in particular when faced with sharing a bed on their wedding night.

Saoirse’s character is so nervous, she turns to a sex manual for answers and makes excuses to leave when things start getting hot and heavy with her new husband

Directed by Dominic Cooke, it also features Anne-Marie Duff, Adrian Scarborough, Emily Watson, and Samuel West.

The movie has been scripted by the author himself and is already hot favourite to rule awards season in 2019.

It received rave reviews after it debuted at the Toronto Film Festival last year and is already tipped for awards glory.

Saoirse shot to fame in another McEwan big screen adaption - 2001 drama Atonement.

The movie landed seven Oscar nominations and won one, for Best Original Score.

Saoirse will compete for the Best Actress Oscar at the glitzy ceremony on Sunday night for her role in acclaimed comedy-drama Ladybird.

She is going up against Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Margot Robbie (I, Tonya) and Meryl Streep (The Post).
