DARREN Criss plays the lead role of serial killer Andrew Cunanan in the latest series of American Crime Story.

Subtitled The Assassination of Gianni Versace, the true crime drama is about the murder of the Italian designer at his Miami Beach home in 1997.

Who is Darren Criss?

Darren Criss, 31, was born in San Francisco California.

He is Eurasian since his mother is Filipino and his father who is from Pittsburgh is of English, Irish and German descent.

His brother, Chuck Criss is a member of the band Freelance Whales.

Criss showed musical talent from a young age and was classically trained on violin.

How did he get into acting?

Criss pursued his interest in performing arts by attending the American Conservatory Theater at the age of ten.

He co-founded Chicago based musical theatre company StarKid Productions and first garnered attention for his role as Harry Potter in A Very Potter Musical.

He also wrote most of the music and lyrics for this musical adaptation of the J.K Rowling books.

His professional stage debut saw him play the lead role of Cesario in 42nd Street Moon's production of Fanny.

He later appeared on Broadway, replacing Daniel Radcliffe in How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

What TV shows has he been in?

Criss made his TV debut as the character Josh Burton in the fantasy comedy series Eastwick in 2009.

He is best known for his role as gay student Blaine in the popular song-filled TV series Glee.

In the show, he fronted the music group The Warblers which have sold over 1.3 million tracks.

In 2015 he was nominated for an Emmy award for writing the song This Time which appeared in the Glee season finale.

When is American Crime Story on TV?

American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace started airing on February 28 on BBC Two at 9pm.

The second series of the true crime anthology series was first broadcast on FX in the US on January 17.

The show consists of nine episodes and will then be available to watch on Netflix.

The first series, about the trial of OJ Simpson, was shown in 2016.
