Coronation Street’s Ryan Thomas reveals he was snubbed by new Neighbours colleagues, he told Johnny Seifert
CORONATION Street’s Ryan Thomas has revealed he was shunned when he went into a green room on the set of Neighbours.
He says there are two different places for the cast to relax - one of which he didn’t feel comfortable in.
Ryan, 33, joined the Australian soap in October last year having been on Corrie since 2000.
He told showbiz reporter for talkRADIO Johnny Seifert: "The two shows are very similar. But the way I approached it was - I was the new boy. I was nervous.
"I walked around Corrie like it's home from home and it is. But being at Neighbours, there was two different green rooms. There was one where I didn't feel comfortable in, there was one I did.
"One was a quiet room, but I felt like I shouldn't be there. Everyone said I could go there. I felt like it was like you've got to be there a little while before you go in that green room.
"Nothing to do with the cast - they made me feel welcome and said I can go in anytime I want.
"But I think I'd need to go back and do another two months before I go in that one.”
Ryan plays Rafael Humphreys, a British visitor, who has a troubled past.
He quit Corrie in 2016.
The Salford lad, who is dating Towie’s Lucy Mecklenburgh, said: "I never thought I'd do another soap and this is the exception.
"Neighbours is such an iconic soap I've been brought up with as much as Coronation Street.
"And it just felt right. It was the summer, I'm going to Australia for the first time, beaches - why say no to an opportunity like that.
"The storyline was something I couldn't turn down. It was such a dark and deep character with a troubled life and it was so far from anything I've played before.
"After speaking to the producer it was something I couldn't turn down."
