Who is Rafael Humphreys?

Ryan Thomas plays British visitor Rafael, who viewers see has severe scarring on his back and clearly has a troubled past.

Scenes airing on February 21 showed David seeing him from afar and asking him out. However, despite getting off to a good start, Rafael retreated when he found out David is Paul Robinson’s son.

The next day, Paul and Amy received an unscheduled workplace safety inspection - and little did they know, Rafael was behind it.

He later asked David out again- but it was revenge, not romance, that was on his mind…

Why does Rafael hate Paul Robinson?

When Mishti caught Rafael trying to break into the yard after closing, he came clean to her about his history.

His mother used to work for Paul in Brazil and died in a fire - he was injured trying to save her.

A year ago, Rafael found his mother’s diary, which blamed Paul for unsafe work practices.

Although he tried to get Paul arrested, the Brazilian police wouldn't press charges, so he went to Australia to find evidence that he’s still operating with dodgy work practices.

Episodes in early March showed Rafael doing some digging - and coming up with evidence that would give Paul and the Robinsons a PR nightmare...

When was Ryan in Coronation Street?

Ryan Thomas is best-known for playing mechanic Jason Grimshaw in Coronation Street.

He was just 16 when he started out on the ITV soap and played the cheeky chap role until June 2016 to persue a career in Hollywood.

Ryan took a brief diversion from life on the cobbles in 2012 for spin-off show Corrie Goes to Kenya, in which he teamed up with on-screen mum Sue Cleaver (who plays Eileen Grimshaw) and ex co-star Brooke Vincent (who plays Sophie Webster) as well as Ben Price (who takes on the role of Nick Tilsley).
