Stephanie Davis reveals she’s an alcoholic and went to rehab after trying to kill herself during relationship with Jeremy McConnell
STEPHANIE Davis has revealed she is an alcoholic and went to rehab as she feared she would “end up dead” if she didn’t.
The former Hollyoaks actress and Celebrity Big Brother star made the frank admission to OK! Magazine, revealing she turned to booze to help her cope with the aftermath of her toxic relationship with Jeremy McConnell.
The couple briefly got back together following the birth of their first child, son Caben-Albi, in January last year but split a few months later.
In August, Irish model Jeremy was found guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and was given a suspended sentence.
The relationship and its aftermath took its toll on the 24-year-old, and she has now admitted to using alcohol to help her cope.
Steph said: “I’m an alcoholic. Going to rehab saved my life.
“I took an overdose while I was still with Jeremy.”
Stephanie then said how she was taken to hospital but paparazzi were soon outside and she now thinks Jeremy told them we were there.
She added: “After we split up there were several times when I thought about killing myself.”
The star then admitted she had “always turned to drink” during difficult times but found herself drinking more during their relationship to block out how awful it was.
She said: “It took me a long time to realise that I had a serious problem.
“I was drinking heavily and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after I split up with Jeremy, because of everything I had been through while we were together.”
Stephanie added her drinking got to the point where she drank most days until she blacked out, and she started to have suicidal thoughts.
She said: “I knew that for Caben’s sake, I had to sort myself out before it was too late.
“I knew that if I didn’t take drastic measures to turn my life around, I would end up dead.”
Stephanie has now been sober for 90 days
Thankfully entering rehab helped Stephanie get back on the right path, and she has now been sober for 90 days.
She continued: “Rehab has taught me that I have to give up alcohol for good – I’m 90 days sober and I no longer need booze to help me cope.”
