DRUG DEATH SCARE

Jeremy McConnell vows to quit drugs following release from jail after fears he was going to be murdered

After being banged up for 23 hours a day, Jeremy insists he’s going to change for good and now hopes to get access to his 13-month-old son

JEREMY McConnell has vowed to quit drugs for the sake of his baby son – after drug binges left him fearing for his life.

In his first interview since leaving prison in December, Jeremy told The Sun Online of his remorse following the events last summer when he assaulted his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Davis in a cocaine fuelled rage.

Speaking to The Sun Online from a hotel room in London, Jeremy said: “I should be held responsible for what I did that day.

“I got sent to prison and I did the time. I hit self-destruct, it was my lowest point. Jail gave me time to reflect and I’ll never make those mistakes again.”

Jeremy’s interview came just hours before the 27-year-old was accused of breaching a three-year restraining order placed upon him following his violent attack on Stephanie.

Jeremy has strongly denied the claims, insisting he hasn't contacted her.

He said: “These allegations are ridiculous and categorically untrue. After I was released from prison I have been working hard to move on with my life and I have certainly not sought to contact her in anyway whatsoever.”

The Celebrity Big Brother star was under the influence of cocaine when he attacked former Hollyoaks actress Stephanie.

During that time, Jeremy admitted his excessive drug abuse left him having delusions people were trying to kill him.

Jeremy explained: “There were times when I would get £200, shove it up my nose and do double barrelled lines. We used to call them the M50 after the motorway in Dublin.

There’s a video of me snorting cocaine off a woman’s privates. Some people are allergic to peanuts – I’m allergic to cocaine.

“If I do a line I’m paranoid to f**k. I’m so paranoid I’ll be looking under the door and out of the blinds. I think the cleaners are hit-men. I think I’ll get a bullet off a cleaner. That’s f****d.”

During the interview, Jeremy insisted he hadn’t used drugs since being jailed in December.

When The Sun Online arranged to meet Jeremy, he cancelled the interview at the last minute because he was “too hungover”.

The next day, when the interview took place, he was adamant he hadn’t used again and said he’d only cancelled because he’d been on a boozy night out with friends.

Jeremy insisted: “I haven’t touched drugs since before prison.

“I’d love to stop drinking one day too but right now, I’m doing the best I can and I do still have a drink when I see my friends.

“I could relapse and take drugs again today but I have to tell myself what I want in my future. I want my son.”

Jeremy credits his stint in jail for helping him get clean and says he promises to stay away from temptation.

He added: “I blame myself for everything because I didn’t deal with the death of my dad or mum. Prison gave me time to think about what I had done.

“In prison I didn’t want to see anyone, even on Christmas Day. I was using that as a punishment. I wanted to think.

“I need to learn to start loving myself so I can go back to what’s important in life, which is my son.

He said: “The next step is contact and mediation and, when the three year restraining order is over, I hope to sit down with his mother and focus on Caben and not us.

“All I want is to be a good father to my boy.”

Jeremy was not paid for his interview with The Sun Online.
