He exclusively told the Sun Online on the red carpet at the National Television Awards last night: "I voted for Steph [Waring] but I'm pleased Lemar is there because he started a month later than everyone else.

"He's been given enough  chances. Lemar is now level pegging.

"If he's in the dance off again I think he should go.

"I always said I'd be honest and I think that honesty comes across as toughness.

"But I'm just being honest in the same way I would be to Jordan and the Diversity boys."

Lemar was saved by the judging panel on Sunday night's show after the 'dance off', while Hollyoaks actress Stephanie Waring had to leave.

On the subject of the rumoured divide within the judging panel - which also includes Jason Gardiner, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean - he also vocalised his thoughts.

He said to the Sun Online: "I think it's gonna get even more. It's gonna get even stronger.

"We come from more of a dance background, they come from technical skating."

Ashley added that he was enjoying being a judge for the competition: "It feels good. I feel at home. I'm just really enjoying the show."

Ashley was joined on the NTAs red carpet by his brother and fellow Diversity dancer Jordan Banjo, 25, who is a presenter of Dancing On Ice.

It was revealed last week that Jordan and his girlfriend Naomi Courts, 26, are expecting their first child together.

The couple told OK! magazine that they did nine pregnancy tests to be sure they were expecting.

Naomi said: “We weren’t trying so I was sure it was going to be negative.”

And Jordan added: “When Naomi told me the test was positive I started laughing, I thought she was winding me up!”
