The real reason Kim Kardashian and Kanye West named their daughter Chicago
KIM Kardashian and Kanye West paid tribute to his late mother Donda by naming their newborn daughter Chicago.
Rapper Kanye was heartbroken when Donda passed away in 2007 and she now lives on through their youngest child.
When Donda split with Kanye’s father, the pair moved to Chicago – something Kanye spoke about in his hit track Hey Mama.
She went on to become a professor at the Chicago State University and, after her death, a charity in the city was created by Kanye to continue her legacy.
Donda’s House provides a safe haven for young people and allows them access to instruments.
In 2013, Kanye donated over £100,000 to the charity and is in regular contact with the cause.
In November, Kanye returned to Chicago to play a concert which marked the 10 year anniversary of his mum’s passing.
Kanye has made no secret of the fact he blames himself for Donda’s death.
After the pair moved to Los Angeles, she underwent cosmetic surgery.
Complications at a later stage are reported to have led to her sudden passing.
In an interview in 2015, Kanye said: “If I had never moved to L.A. she'd be alive.
“I don't want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears.”
Kim and Kanye’s daughter was welcomed into the world by a surrogate after Kim was warned it was too dangerous to go through with a natural pregnancy.
The tot was born on January 15 and Kim said their two children North and Saint were already madly in love with their little sister.
Kim announced the news in a sweet post on her website which simply read: "She's here! We're so in love."
She continued: “Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl.
“We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care.
“North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister.”
Kim confirmed she was pregnant on her show Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
The reality star has spoken publicly about her fears the couple would not be able to have another child after the first embryo implanted in the surrogate was lost.

Speaking to her pregnant sister Khloe during an episode of KUWTK, Kim explained: "It’s really nerve-wracking because there’s only a 60 percent chance it [the embryo] will take...
"I mean, I tried one and I lost it. So it’s just a chance."
She also explained that it took her and husband Kanye West a year to find the ideal surrogate to carry their third child.
Kim said it was a really “difficult situation” trying to find someone who would be the perfect fit for herself and Kanye.
