JAKE Wood has been praised by EastEnders fans for giving the “performance of his life” during tonight’s episode.
The actor, who plays Max Branning in the BBC soap, had some viewers in tears as they watched him find out his daughter Abi was going to have her life support machine turned off.
Max’s downfall has continued to play out over the past few months after his revenge plotline went terribly wrong.
After Abi and Lauren both fell from the roof of the Queen Vic, fans have known that the younger of the pair would not survive.
Max has not taken the news well and has turned to alcohol to ease his pain.
In upsetting scenes tonight, he attempted to build a crib for Abi’s child who survived the fall.
Trying to go about his everyday life, the pain was etched across Max’s face when he finally broke down and faced the reality of what was about to happen.
Heading to the hospital with Lauren, a doctor told him he had just hours to say goodbye to his little girl.
Fans praised his incredible ability on screen, with one telling him: “You honestly deserve an award at the British Soap Awards this year - fantastic performance tonight as ever!”
A second said: “Wow that was an emotional episode ... @mrjakedwood what an actor you are, absolutely amazing at what you do!”
Another commented: “Another stunning performance from @mrjakedwood in #EastEnders this evening. What legend that man is.”
Jake called the storyline the best he's seen on the show in over a decade.
He said of the shocking scripts: “In terms of what I’ve read, they’re the best I’ve read since 2007!”
