The Walking Dead will return for a ninth season
The popular horror series is back for more shocks but fans could have a long wait ahead
HORROR fans, rejoice! The Walking Dead has been renewed for a ninth season and the show is getting a big overhaul behind the scenes with a new showrunner.
The zombie epic is said to be worth more than one billion US dollars, so it's no surprise that bosses want to extend the run.
Former co-exec producer and write Angela Kang will take over as showrunner for the ninth season after being with the show for the past seven years.
President of AMC network Charlie Collier has said: "This is an enormously important day for the entire The Walking Dead television universe.
"We are proud to acknowledge Angela's significant contribution to the series and to set a clear path forward for a ninth season under her direction."
Charlie went on to pay tribute to former showrunner Scott M Gimple who has been promoted to the role of Chief Content Officer, adding: "Further, with grattitude and admiration, we also recognise Scott's broad impact on, and leadership of, the content that fuels our TWD universe."
New showrunner Angela Kang confirmed that the ninth season of The Walking Dead will debut in October 2019.
Spin-off show Fear the Walking Dead's fourth season will premiere in April and will directly follow the dramatic events of the main show's eighth run.
In the meantime, fans can look forward to the second half of the eighth season which will air on FOX UK from Monday, February 26.
Actor Norman Reedus has teased fans in a recent interview by revealing two major characters are set to leave the hit zombie drama.
