Who is Craig McLachlan? What is his background?

Craig, 53, was born September 1, 1965 and is an Australian actor and singer.

He has been involved in film, television and music theatre for 30 years.

He is best known for playing Henry Ramsey in Neighbours (1987 to 89) and Home and Away's Grant Mitchell (1990 to 1991).

In the early 90s Craig launched a pop career and had a Top Ten hit with Mona.

He has a teenage son with British actress and voice artist Charlotte Avery.

The actor is currently in a relationship with conductor Vanessa Scammell.

When was Craig charged with assault and sex offences?

On January 11, 2019, Craig was charged with assault and sex offences in Australia.

The 53-year-old faces one count of common law assault, eight counts of indecent assault and one count of attempted indecent assault.

The actor will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 8.

The charges come after McLachlan was accused of sexual harassment by several actresses during his career.

Denying the accusations at the time, McLachlan said: "Frankly, they seem to be simple inventions, perhaps made for financial reasons, perhaps to gain notoriety.

"In either event, they are to the best of my knowledge utterly and entirely false."
