Scarlett Moffatt blames weight gain on ‘being surrounded by people who didn’t encourage her’ as she hits the gym and vows to get fit
TV star Scarlett Moffatt has changed who she surrounds herself with in a bid to get fit.
The Newcastle native attributed her recent recent weight gain to being too busy for the gym, and not being with people who encouraged her to stick to a healthy regime.
Turning over a new leaf, Scarlett took to Instagram on Thursday and shared a picture of herself in a car wearing her workout kit, marking her return to the gym.
She captioned the picture: "First day back at the gym today!! I know it'll take a good couple of months to get my memory muscle back into the swing of things but I can't wait to get fit for me, your health is your wealth."
But when she was asked by a fan why she'd stopped exercising, she gave a refreshingly honest response, claiming "life took over".
Scarlett, 27, continued: "I know that sounds like an excuse but I was so busy, eating on the road! Was surrounded by not encouraging people - but that's all changed."
The former Gogglebox star slimmed down in 2016, dropping five dress sizes - taking her down to a Size 8 - and losing three stone over six months.
Despite admitting she didn't have time for the gym, she seemed happier than ever, quipping that she was "just a normal lass" when people commented on her size.
But constant scrutiny over her body did take its toll, and in November she hit back after a barrage of criticism from online trolls.
She tweeted: "Who are these people who think it's ok to call women for the way they look...too skinny, too fat, too old, not enough make-up etc."
In her autobiography, Sofa So Good: Me Life Story, she gained praise from readers for addressing questions over her weight, saying: "I'm just the average northern lass who likes a chip-shop dinner and doesn't particularly like yoga and cross-training."
Scarlett has had a packed schedule since finding fame alongside her family on Gogglebox.
