Amir Khan calls I’m A Celebrity his ‘detox’ after he went off the rails during marriage crisis with Faryal Makhdoom
Boxer admitted he ‘broke’ his relationship with Faryal after cheating on her
AMIR Khan hailed I’m A Celebrity as his “detox” during a candid appearance on Loose Women.
The boxer, who was spotted looking loved up with his pregnant wife, Faryal Makhdoom on the way to the show earlier this morning, admitted he was now working hard on their relationship.
Amir and Faryal split earlier this year but now they’ve reconciled, with Amir saying being on the ITV reality show helped save their relationship.
Jane Moore quizzed 31-year-old on his past behaviour, which included allegations of infidelity, and said their marriage had gone “catastrophically wrong”.
Agreeing with her statement, Amir explained: “I came to a stage where I didn’t know what to with my life.
“I was breaking my marriage, I wasn’t boxing. I started praying and it put me on the right path.
“And going into the jungle helped me. For me it got me away, it gave me a detox.
“When I was away from boxing I lost my focus and my structure. What went wrong was a lack of communication. The way it went public wasn’t nice.
“I think anger sometimes takes over. We want to make sure all that’s put behind us.”
Smiling at Faryal, he then added: “I’ve started again.”
Late last year, Amir and Faryal looked set to divorce as their bitter rows played out on Twitter.
Amir accused her of cheating on him with fellow boxer Anthony Joshua and Faryal hit back saying he had cheated on her.
After leaving I’m A Celebrity, Amir told The Sun On Sunday: “I definitely have more appreciation for my little girl and my wife Faryal.
“I was so far away. I missed them like crazy.
“I don’t think we’ll break up again now, we both know how much we need each other.
“It was a bit of a wake-up call for us both and it will only make us stronger.”
He added: “We didn’t go through with the divorce as it’s void [banned in his Muslim religion] when a girl is pregnant.
“So it was a lesson, and I think our marriage will last forever now.”
Before his appearance on Loose Women, Amir had his fans in hysterics as he mocked the strawberry-gate incident from I’m A Celebrity.
Shoving the tasty fruit in his mouth, Amir giggled into the camera.
One of Amir’s followers told him: “I think I just died and remembered when you stole all those strawberries and cream on @CelebrityJungle.”
Another replied: “If your next opponent doesn’t enter the ring eating strawberries with a snake around his neck I’ll be disappointed.”
